Why AI-image prompt data may be missing from a PNG
No chunks means no chunks — not ‘this was drawn by a human’.

Three boring reasons
The generator was configured not to write metadata.
A messenger, social network, or ‘export for web’ path stripped ancillary chunks.
A canvas conversion — including ConvertPass’s own compressor — re-encoded pixels and dropped text chunks.
What we tested
A PNG with a tEXt payload was run through canvas encode to JPEG and back. The AI metadata viewer then reported no generation metadata. That is expected. It is also why the PNG strip path exists: to drop text without re-encoding IDAT when you still need lossless pixels.
What ConvertPass will not say
We will not claim an image is or is not AI-generated from missing metadata. We will not add a generator to a compatibility table without a file we have actually parsed.
