What this tool does

The compressor draws the image once, then binary-searches canvas quality for each available encoder. It decodes each candidate and measures mean RGB error against a downscaled preview. The smallest file under that budget, and smaller than the original, is recommended. PNG is included as a lossless canvas re-encode; it often cannot beat an already-optimised PNG. Nothing is uploaded or stored after you leave the page.

How to use it

  1. Drop up to 10 images. Compression starts immediately.
  2. Compare original and compressed previews plus per-format sizes.
  3. Download the recommended file, another format, or a zip of recommended results.

ConvertPass does not include your input in analytics, URLs, or error reports. Encoding: Browser decoder and canvas encoder. Quality search uses a 128-pixel preview comparison.. Limit: 10 files, 25 MB each (25.00 MB).

Limitations

  • This is not TinyPNG’s pngquant pipeline. PNG savings are limited to what the browser encoder can do; photos usually win as WebP, JPEG, or AVIF.
  • Already-compact files may not get smaller. ConvertPass will say so and keep the original as the recommendation.
  • Animated GIFs flatten to one frame. EXIF and colour profiles are dropped by canvas encode.
  • Results are held in tab memory only. Reload, reset, or closing the tab discards them. There is no database.

Troubleshooting

The file did not get smaller
The original was already compact, or PNG was the only encoder that stayed lossless. Try a photograph as JPEG/WebP, or download a listed format conversion even if it is not smaller.
AVIF is missing
This browser cannot encode AVIF on a canvas. WebP and JPEG are still searched.

FAQ

Is this the same as TinyPNG?

The workflow is similar — drop files, get a smaller high-quality result — but the engine is not. TinyPNG uses specialised quantisers, often on a server. ConvertPass searches the browser’s own JPEG, WebP, PNG, and AVIF encoders so files never leave the device. PNG photos will not shrink the way TinyPNG’s palette reduction can.

Do you store my images in a database?

No. There is no account and no server-side image store. Blobs stay in this tab until you download, reset, or reload.

How do you avoid sacrificing quality?

Each lossy encode is decoded and compared to the original on a small preview. Quality is lowered only while mean RGB error stays under a fixed budget. That is a practical stand-in for “looks the same,” not a lab SSIM score.

Does this strip GPS?

Yes, as a side effect of canvas encode. Use the metadata remover if stripping is the primary job.
